Zeal Kāpiti is looking for a youth worker who can proactively engage with our young people, build positive and effective relationships and fostering belonging, independence and connect young people to Zeal’s programmes and services.
We’re looking for someone to join our team in Kāpiti who believes in young people like we do. You will be responsible for connecting with our Kāpiti young people, providing connection to Zeal, and coordinating activities. In all this, you will keep the care and experience of Kāpiti young people at the heart, building genuine relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Proactively engage with young people and build positive and effective relationships, in line with best practice strengths-based youth development.
- Connect young people to Zeal’s programmes and services.
- Work alongside other Zeal staff, implementing the strategic direction of Zeal.
- Meet all administrative, reporting and file management requirements.
- Play an active and contributing role within the Zeal Kāpiti and Zeal nationwide team, fostering shared learning opportunities and experiences.
- You will hold the responsibility for creating content for the Zeal Kāpiti social media including Instagram, Facebook and the national TikTok. Alongside this, you will be required to work in conjunction with the communications manager.
- Assist the Manager and other Zeal staff in coordinating the drop-in space and other youth work activities.
- Proactively manage contractual requirements for relevant funding agreements.
- Develop and facilitate youth events as directed by the Manager including supporting a group of young people in the events team. Please note, this will require occasional weekend work '
Skills and experience
- You know your stuff. Ideally, you've got 1+ years' experience in working with young people.
- You are self-motivating and taking initiative at every step.
- You excel at communication, particularly written and interpersonal.
- You think outside the box to produce fresh ideas and concepts
- Young people and creativity are deeply important to you.
- You enjoy social media and keep up to date with the latest online trends, you will have basic skills regarding taking photos, writing captions and creating engaging content.

Where's the job?
Your core mahi will be at our youth centre in Paraparaumu and engage with staff and rangatahi remotely in the event of future lockdowns.
