Freshmans Dance Crew represents Aotearoa in Brisbane

October was a massive month for us at West. Our dance crews represented us here and overseas, and we taught a bunch of young people new creative skills over the holidays.

Holiday hangs

Over the holidays, we ran a ton of free creative arts workshops – from hip hop dance to DJ jams, Songwriting and Samoan siva. We had over 50 young people make the most of these free classes over the week and it has been a great way to springboard into our fourth term of creative classes.

Work experience

Over the holidays, we were able to give 25 young people paid work experience helping Noel Leeming with their annual MASSIVE sale at ASB Showgrounds. This was many of the young people’s first form of work experience, and was a huge learning curve for everyone. Great times were had and the mahi was done.

Krump nationals

We hosted the annual Krump National Dance Championships over the long weekend with over 300 people coming through Zeal over two days. This was a huge event that brought together dancers from all over the country.

Fresh take over Brisbane

Our local dance crew Freshmans represented NZ at the House Of Champions competition in Brisbane. As well as competing they performed at a few gigs and took private classes to bring some Aussie flavour back to NZ.

Halloween hangs

We hosted our first ever Halloween Party with a very special afterschool hangs. We dressed the place from top to bottom and got in the party spirit. This is something we will continue in the future.

Bye Mati

We sadly say goodbye to our venue hire coordinator Mati. She has brought heaps of energy to our team and we will miss her as she moves on to her future endeavours.
