Zeal unleashes new music studio inside a shipping container

The Zeal Kāpiti crew in conjunction with the Kāpiti Coast District Council have launched their new Music Box – a 20 foot, side opening shipping container fully equipped to give the youth of the region everything they need to develop their skills.

Historically, Zeal has operated out of youth centers in our major cities, but this time we have opted for a different approach. “In having a portable music box, we are able to pick it up and shift it around the Kāpiti district,” says Dooley, Zeal Kāpiti’s general manager. “Instead of young people coming to Zeal, we can come to them.”
The launch day was a huge success with over 180 people having a turn and many more watching on. The converted shipping container has seven stations – drums, bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keys, beat making and a DJ booth, all of which function separately or together in any combination.
“We are excited to be able to provide instruments and development opportunities to young people in any area,” Annalise, Zeal Kāpiti’s youth work co-ordinator says.
The mobile unit will now be placed at Ōtaki College for the rest of Term 1 where we will activate the space after school two days each week. If you would like more information or to get involved, contact Dooley here.
