An Oscar-worthy graduation at Zeal Hamilton

Kia ora!

It’s hard to believe how quickly Christmas has come. Here at Zeal Hamilton we’ve been focused on finishing well and preparing our young people to move on from Zeal. We have been celebrating, recognising success, and helping this awesome crew of young people see themselves through our lens.

Merry Christmas from us here at Zeal Hamilton!

We played host to Openside

On 23 November, we proudly played host to Auckland band Openside who were in Hamilton on their New Zealand tour. Openside have previously opened for artists such as Ellie Goulding, All Time Low, Ladyhawke, Fall Out Boy, Twenty One Pilots and Panic! At the Disco.
The night also saw Nu-Punk rockers Holloway Holiday, and Auckland-based rapper, Randa perform for over 80 people.

Welcome Courtney

We are stoked to announce we’ve recently welcomed Courtney White onto our youth work team. Courtney has completed her Bachelors in Social Sciences and is currently writing her thesis for a Masters in Applied Psychology.

Courtney comes from a background working at Oranga Tamariki and in an education context helping youth to manage any challenges they face both in their learning and outside of school. We’re very excited about the passion and expertise she will bring to our centre and street-based youth development approaches in 2020.

“One of the biggest things I noticed was failing youth was how they were perceived by their community and how little belief they had in themselves. Through Zeal, I hope to instil enough confidence and self-belief in young people so they truly believe they can do anything that they put their mind to. I want young people to know that if they have a dream then they can make it a reality, no matter what issues they face in their life.”

Year 13 students graduate Zeal

We have journeyed alongside some amazing young people over the past four years and December marks the end of an era for a number of them, who will be officially moving onto bigger and better things.

To celebrate the amazing contribution they have made to Zeal and our community, we went out for dinner and swapped stories on our time together, making sure these young people left fully encouraged for their next chapter.

On Friday, 13 December, we held our Oscar Award ceremony for them and we are going to miss them very much!
