Over the month of May, Gateway students from Kāpiti dreamed, schemed and executed two events for the youth of the region.
At the beginning of May, the Event and Live Sound team from Otaki College hosted a lunchtime event with live performances from young talent and a coffee cart manned by Barista Gateway students.
To finish off the month, Gateway students filled Hadfield Hall with UV lights and glowsticks for their Blackout event. Over fifty youth attended, with ten Gateway students and volunteers making sure the evening ran smoothly.
“It’s so awesome seeing a bunch of young people who barely knew each other, adapt and work so hard together to put on some amazing events,” says Sean, Zeal Kāpiti’s youth work intern.
The Gateway programme by Zeal aims to provide real world skills for young people, offering NCEA credits in a variety of creative programmes.
Currently, Zeal Kāpiti runs a Barista, Event Management and Live Sound Gateway programme, with intakes throughout the year. Keep an eye out for our new Programmes page launching soon, or get in touch for more information!
