Zeal Kāpiti is looking for a youth worker who can proactively engage with our young people, build positive and effective relationships and fostering belonging, independence and connect young people to Zeal’s programmes and services for 30 hours a week.
We’re looking for someone to join our team in Kāpiti who believes in young people like we do. You will be responsible for connecting with our Kāpiti young people, providing connection to Zeal, and coordinating activities. In all this, you will keep the care and experience of Kāpiti young people at the heart, building genuine relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and facilitate monthly youth events
- Manage and develop Zeal Kapiti’s social media platforms
- Proactively engage with young people and build positive and effective relationships, in line with best practice strengths-based youth development.
- Connect young people to Zeal’s programmes and services.
- Assist the Manager and other Zeal staff in coordinating the drop-in space and other youth work activities.
- Work alongside other Zeal staff, implementing the strategic direction of Zeal.
- Proactively manage contractual requirements for relevant funding agreements.
- Meet all administrative, reporting and file management requirements.
- Comply with all health and safety procedures, reporting any health and safety issues, hazards or possible risks to the Manager.
- Play an active and contributing role within the Zeal Kapiti and Zeal nationwide team, fostering shared learning opportunities and experiences.
- To assist the Manager in any other capacity as directed.
Skills and experience
- You know your stuff. Ideally, you've got 1+ years' experience in working with young people.
- Experience in event management
- The passion and ability to grow Social Media activity
- You have working knowledge of The Circle of Mana and Te Whare Tapa Whā.
- You have a demonstrated ability to build relationships with young people.
- You have a proactive, self-motivated mindset and approach
- You have a demonstrated ability to mentor and coach others.
- You think outside the box to produce fresh ideas and concepts.
- Young people and creativity are deeply important to you, and you've got the experience and knowledge to back it up.
- You're hungry. When you wake in the morning your stomach rumbles, waiting to be filled with epic social change.
