Kia ora!
Hello again from Zeal Hamilton. October has been a big month for the team, and we’re looking forward to a busy November!
Introducing our brand-new sound programmes
In October, we kicked off our live sound recording programme and our recording workshops and they’ve have been fantastic. Our tutor, Godfrey Dale, has done a wonderful job inspiring our future tech experts. At the beginning of the month we held a recording workshop that helped young people understand the fundamentals of the recording studio.
We’ve also been working quietly in the background to develop a film and editing programme for 2020 as well, so watch this space.
Slow Motion – a musical showcase
Logan from Ward Lane Print Co. has worked closely with the Fringe Film Festival to help bring local young artists to the stage to showcase their musical talents. In October we hosted Slow Motion by Erin Myers. This musical showcase saw eight young artists combine to perform a variety of different numbers for the public.
The level of skill this year was exceptional, and we look forward to developing a strong relationship with the Fringe community to help bring even more young, local artists to the stage.
Annual camp
Every year we hold a camp for our after school community. It’s always a great way to spend time with our young people in a different environment, get to know them and make memories together. Many of the young people at this year’s camp have been coming to Zeal for two to three years. We kayaked over a lake, had a BBQ, a bonfire and fireworks to celebrate as a Zeal whānau.
Identity workshop for Year 13s
This year we have placed a particular importance on helping our Year 13 students prepare for life outside of Zeal. Our team developed an ‘Identity workshop’, a programme giving our young people one-on-one mentoring with our highly-trained youth workers.
We use personality and strength finding tools to help young people discover more about themselves and plan for the future. So far, we’ve received exceptional feedback and we look forward to developing this further.
