Job Purpose
To proactively engage with young people in-person and online, building positive and effective relationships and connecting young people to Zeal’s programmes and services. To tutor young people in Digital Programmes while building positive and effective relationships with young people. This is a permanent position at 40 hours per week at $26-$30 per hour depending on experience.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver programmes and spaces that grow young people’s digital skills, confidence and sense of belonging.
- Connect young people to Zeal’s programmes and services.
- Teach skills and develop young people’s competency in digital programmes.
- Work alongside other Zeal staff, implementing the strategic direction of Zeal.
- Meet all administrative, reporting and file management requirements.
- Play an active and contributing role within the Zeal Digital and Zeal nationwide team, fostering shared learning opportunities and experiences.
- Proactively engage with young people and build positive and effective relationships, in line with best practice strengths-based youth development.
- Assist the Manager and other Zeal staff in coordinating the drop-in space, online spaces and other youth work activities.
- Develop and facilitate youth events as directed by the Digital Director.
- Proactively manage contractual requirements for relevant funding agreements.
- Comply with all health and safety procedures, reporting any health and safety issues, hazards or possible risks to the Digital Director.
- To assist the Digital Director in any other capacity as directed.
Skills and experience
- You know your stuff. You’ve got a relevant tertiary qualification in youth development and 2+ years’ experience in youth/community development, or a similar field.
- You’ve got the skills and knowledge to facilitate digital programmes (e.g. computer refurbishing) and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new digital skills.
- You have working knowledge of The Circle of Courage and Te Whare Tapa Whā.
- You have a demonstrated ability to build relationships with young people.
- You have a demonstrated ability to mentor and coach others.
- You have a proactive, self-motivated mindset and approach.
- You think outside the box to produce fresh ideas and concepts.
- Young people and creativity are deeply important to you, and you've got the experience and knowledge to back it up.
- You're hungry. When you wake in the morning your stomach rumbles, waiting to be filled with epic social change.
- You tick the boxes on our values (seriously, read them, they're very important to us).

Additional Information
This position description forms merely a guide for the overall responsibilities for this position. A more comprehensive list of tasks and objectives will be set by the reporting manager on an annual basis and will form part of the performance review process. This position is for a Fixed Term for the remainder of 2024.
