Students from Zeal West’s Gateway programme filled the cool Autumn evening with acoustic goodness this past May with their youth-led event, Illuminate Jamz.
Completely planned, executed and run by young people, the Event Management, Sound and Lighting Tech students came together to showcase some of West Auckland’s finest rising stars in the outdoor event.
Seven of our volunteers and interns kept the evening running smoothly, with five young performers taking the stage.
“The event was so colourful and the vibes were great,” says Geniqua (16), an Art Management Gateway student. “It was a whole different scene for me because I’ve never been to an acoustic night, but I really enjoyed myself.”
“I’m also stoked on the feedback we have received and how many people turned up! Overall, it was an amazing experience, especially being a part of a really humble and encouraging team.”
