Zeal successfully received funding from NZCT to support our team of youth workers at Zeal Kāpiti and Zeal Taranaki. This means youth workers will be able to reach a greater number of rangatahi, helping them build confidence in their self-worth and live purposefully within the wider community. It will provide young people with access to transformative spaces and experiences that nurture their self-worth and foster a sense of belonging.
Thanks to NZCT support, Zeal is able to extend opportunities to a greater number of young people through a $19,896 grant.
The last couple of years have been very challenging for our rangatahi.
The impacts of Covid have resulted in an increase in young people experiencing greater negative mental health challenges such as anxiety, stress and depression, with many having not returned to school or chronically absent from school post lockdowns. With cost of living increases many rangatahi that we support are navigating very challenging home environments where basic practical needs are unable to be met.

“Daily (especially first thing on a morning) we have rangatahi arriving on our doorstep with significant needs. We currently have young people that are at our afternoon hangs and programmes that are homeless and others who don’t have their basic needs met. To be able to increase support for our team will literally be life changing for these amazing humans, who through no fault of their own find themselves in these heart breaking situations.”
