One of the highlights of our year has been the opportunity to train and provide work experience to 49 young people. This initiative has not only equipped them with valuable skills but also opened doors to future opportunities in youth jobs in Kāpiti. By participating in our programs, these young individuals have gained practical experience and confidence, setting them on a path to success in their future careers.
Our highlights
Afternoon Hangs Programme:
We proudly support a vibrant and diverse group of rangatahi from Tuesday to Friday. Here, they can connect, feel belonging, and access support in a safe, judgment-free environment. Our dedicated youth workers journey alongside our young people through various activities such as workshops, sports, and creative arts – helping them access opportunities, recognise their strengths, and develop valuable life skills.
Youth and Community Events:
This term Zeal has supported a number of community events across Kāpiti, including the Otaki Kite Festival, Movie in the Park at Waikanae, and Waitangi Ki Taumanua 2025. Zeal’s community events team is fully hands-on, assisting with stage setup, sound systems, and running the sound desk and stage management.
Barista Programmes:
Zeal’s barista programmes are designed to provide practical skills and hands-on experience for rangatahi, particularly those at risk of disengaging from education. These programmes include short-term courses, college-based courses, and work-ready courses, with sessions ranging from four to eight sessions. The programmes aim to build confidence, teamwork, and a sense of achievement, with many participants gaining job experience through work placements.
The Kāpiti Council’s support has been instrumental in making all of this possible. Their commitment to fostering youth development has allowed us to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of young people in our community. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and look forward to continuing this journey together!
