Shake the City sends good vibrations through Hamilton

The Event Box’s first trip to Hamilton went down a treat with 1,000 locals coming out to celebrate summer and soak up the vibes.

A few highlights from Shake the City.

With support from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, Creative Waikato and Te Ahurei a Rangatahi, Hamilton came alive with four hours of free entertainment. In addition to the two stages showcasing the best of the region’s talent, live graffiti, a massive inflatable soccer field and a pop-up Misfit Markets were also thrown into the mix.

Musical highlights included Beau Monga (X Factor winner) kicking off the festivities with Half Eaten Pie (2016 Rockquest finalists) following shortly after. An impromptu dance battle filled the time between bands and a few locals were given the chance to show off their talents with an open mic session.

“It was a great opportunity to bring people to the centre of the city,” says Lehi Duncan, Zeal Hamilton’s regional manager. “We were able to celebrate the creativity of some young musicians in the midst of an event for the whole community.”
