Zeal crew hits Rotorua for annual Hui, mafia, and luging

This August, Zeal crew from Wellington to West Auckland came together in beautiful Rotorua for our annual hui – a three day camp of rest, reflection, and planning.
Overlooking Lake Rotorua, we spent a few days at Lakeview Bible Camp to prepare for the arrival of our new CEO. Led by General Manager extraordinaire, Elliot Taylor, the theme for this Hui was kotahitangi (unity / oneness).

“At Zeal we’re more than just an organisation – we’re a family of creative misfits, a people dedicated to young people and each other,” says Elliot.

As well as group planning sessions for the rest of 2018 and hearing from members of our Board, we also took some time to fall off the luge as a team.

“Hui is the most important event on our team calendar. We know how vital it is to feel connected to each other and to the heart of Zeal. It is a time to step back, pause, reflect, discuss, learn, listen, laugh and, of course, slaughter each other in mafia.”

“I’m humbled at the opportunity to be part of a legacy of building authentic, meaningful connections with young people through creativity.”

“I’ve shared so many laughs and big smiles with my young people, and have shed tears over them too. And that’s ok. I think that’s where the change happens, when we can just love on a person until they feel at home with us and the space.”
