Our barista course for young people in Wellington covers the
basics of coffee growth, varieties and
processing; basics of extraction; how to
develop an espresso recipe; advanced
techniques toward extraction consistency;
milk preparation and pouring; beverage
construction and presentation; and basic
customer service techniques.
What it involves:
- 13 weeks of training real life experience
- 2 NCEA workshops (including work readiness training)
- 1 training session at People’s Coffee Roastery
- 1 celebration evening at Stories Espresso Bar
- 50 hours work placement
- Support into employment post course
- 20 NCEA credits
What you’ll get out of it:
- You’ll be able to prepare espresso coffee to an industry standard
- You’ll be able to prepare pressed and filter coffee to an industry standard
- You’ll learn to work well in a team environment
- You’ll feel well versed in customer service
- You’ll gain an understanding of work ethic and expectations
