30 under 30 awards: celebrating community achievements (and the Zeal Hamilton crew!)

The Zeal Familton crew woke up at the crack of dawn on August 21st (okay, it was like 7am) to head in to Zeal to host the Hamilton City Council’s 30 Under 30 awards – and we ended up winning one, too!

For the last few years, the Council has celebrated the young people of our city through the ‘30 Under 30’ awards, recognising those who are excelling in their field or have overcome adversity to give back to their community.

As well as the Zeal Hamilton team taking out an award (chur!), one of our young people, Kieran Stephens (16), who began his journey at Zeal’s Photography Programme, was celebrated for his sweet snaps.

Among the rest of the winners, Diana Ruri was recognised for her monumental work with Htown Skate Project, who the Hams team has collaborated with in the past through in-school workshops.
“Demographically, Hamilton has one of the youngest populations in the country, so it’s great to be able to take a moment to celebrate young people who are shaping the city,” says Lehi Duncan, Zeal Hamilton’s regional manager.
To check out the rest of the recipients, head over to the 30 Under 30 page on the Hamilton City Council website, and keep an eye out for profiles on all the winners coming later this year!
