New youth centre in Kāpiti comes alive in first month

We are loving our new space! After the official opening in July, it’s been a whirlwind of youth led events and activities.

With the first event kicking off on the Saturday night, around 100 young people came along to hear local legends Devon Welch and Archie The Brave perform.

We had a great time over the school holidays with the centre being open Tuesday to Friday all afternoon. With plenty of activities thrown in the mix, it was a great chance for young people to come down and connect with Zeal.
Two Musician’s Lounge events during the holidays brought out some crazy local talent, with some first time performers getting a spotlight alongside some experienced songwriters. Highlight of the night was local DJ Connor who ran a live performance while Mackenzie pulled out a fire staff and poi to give the crowd a show!
We also helped out with local event Spade Aid, organized by the council with the aim of planting 20,000 trees. Our young people and volunteers got their hands muddy while we facilitated a stage with live music pumping all day.

We are now settling into our regular hours, with our afternoon hangs happening Tuesday to Friday 3:30-6pm. Come down and check us out!
