Just over a year ago, Zeal Taranaki opened its doors in Marfell. In that time, the team has organised 20 events, using 264 volunteers, and engaged with 9291 young people.
“Highlights have included events at Waitara High School, Sacred Heart Girls’ College, and Manukorihi Intermediate School, buying and fitting out a trailer, and working to increase young people’s engagement with the local body elections through a ‘Meet the Mayoral Candidates’ meeting.”
A couple of weeks ago, Stuff picked up the story and we’re stoked to announce that we’re on the move to the CBD of New Plymouth! This move will make Zeal Taranaki that much more accessible to the young people there.
“He (Zeal Taranaki Manager, Luke Galley) said young people wanted a space where they can express themselves, pick up new skills and do something positive with their time.
They have a team of 68 young people who work on events and have developed a real sense of community among them, Galley said.
Zeal Taranaki will receive $100,000 of New Plymouth District Council for three years and last month returned its first annual report.”
So come on down to our new home – 74 Powderham Street, New Plymouth. “Looking ahead to the remainder of 2020, Galley said they would love to be closer to setting up a multi-purpose creative arts centre, and having more stories of young people ‘that have grabbed the opportunities presented to them and really run with them’.”
